Students will be exploring art through drawing and watercolour. We aim to foster creativity in the visual arts while covering essential skills and techniques. Some projects will be worked on over several lessons.
Setting up space for your child to participate just requires a desk or a table. How to go about this simply, is outlined on the attached document “Art Club Materials and Set Up.pdf”. You will also be asked to check for emails prior to the class which might contain instructions or images the student will need.
Note that by enrolling a child, parents/carers accept responsibility for supervising the student’s safety. In the “Art Club Materials and Set Up.pdf” file, as well as materials required important safety points are outlined.

An overview of Beginners courses offered during the yea
The Adults Beginner Art Class caters to the absolute beginner as well as those who feel there are gaps in their understanding of basics. No experience is needed.
The course cycles through different units over one year. At any time a student may decide to move into the Intermediate to Advanced group. The emphasis is hands-on. To facilitate this, there will be demonstrations, discussions, and viewing of relevant selected artworks.
We aim to introduce you to the basics of painting and drawing in a supportive and flexible environment. Flexibility is important. Every class, and every student, is unique. Where necessary and applicable, the course will be adapted and tailored to the on-going interests and developing expertise of the class and the individual members of the group.
Over a year we cover the following:
Colour
The wonder of colour mixing and colour harmonies through colour mixing exercise, viewing works by selected artists, and applying this to projects on canvas. We will be looking at ways to apply acrylic paint. Watercolour will be introduced in term 3. Ways of applying paint will be demonstrated and you will have the opportunity to experiment, observe, and apply.
Composition
The basic elements of composition and design will be introduced along the way. These are built into everything we do when creating an artwork.
Drawing
We will cover structural and observational drawing, the versatility of charcoal and graphite.

Materials for term 1 2021
Specific media needed for this term include drawing media such as charcoal and pencil, your choice of acrylic/watercolour or oil paints. Surfaces: you will need a visual diary for experiments. Surfaces will depend on the media you decide to use. Paper or pads that work for your chosen media are a good fall back. We recommend the following: Reeves, Art Spectrum and Canson have suitable quality watercolour, canvas, and oil pads. Eraldo di Paolo Watercolour Pad is also ok. For watercolour paper 270 or 300gsm is recommended
