Holiday Art Workshops – Art classes

Enjoy learning art techniques and developing your creativity at these December Workshops in Kenmore, Brisbane. Students will be introduced to techniques and encouraged to apply and extend these techniques.
Venue:  All the workshops will be held at  the Kenmore Uniting Church Hall, 982 Moggill Road, Kenmore, 4069. There is onsite parking and a bus stop nearby. We are in the “Yellow Room” studio underneath the hall.
Dr Jennifer Andrews will be running these workshops. Jennifer is an accomplished artist and has years of experience teaching art with this age group. She aims to create a supportive learning environment where students feel confident to apply techniques and explore creative possibilities.

The fundamental aim of Brizart art classes is to foster creativity in the visual arts while covering essential skills and techniques in a safe, supportive and flexible learning environment

Printmaking – Holiday Art Workshop

Time: 9.30 am to 12.30 pm

About the Workshop:

The following materials are provided: foam printing plates, rollers, inks, and paper, aprons.

Cost: $70 (GST inc)

About the Workshop:

In this three-hour workshop, we aim to create an environment where young artists can experiment with creative possibilities using a printmaking medium.

Printing from foam plates provides the experience of experimenting with mark-making and turning these marks into creative patterns. Foam printing plates are soft and incised marks can be made by pressing into, and drawing onto, the surface. Students will be encouraged to also consider composition.
We will use found objects, as well as drawing tools, to create patterns and designs to print. Time Permitting, some young artists might extend the print with watercolour.

Brisbane-based artist, Jennifer Andrews, will be conducting the workshop.

Watercolour – Holiday Art Workshop

Explore the transparent nature of watercolours!

Enjoy the art process through printmaking!

Age Group: Teens 10 -17yrs

Date: Thursday 16 and Friday 17 December

Time: 10 am to 1pm

About the Workshop:

The transparent nature of watercolours means that they have beautiful luminous qualities while also being able to be used in many different ways to achieve very different effects.

This is a two-morning workshop.

We will explore some watercolour techniques and colour mixing activities to create subtle colour variations. We will be looking at ways of depicting trees and applying the concept that we can’t include everything and that the artist makes choices of what to put in and to leave out. The theme will be based on landscape. Techniques to be covered include:  applying washes, wet on wet, wet on dry, and lifting-off techniques. These will be applied to directed and extension activities.

The following materials are provided: Materials are provided. This includes watercolours, watercolour brushes, watercolour paper, watercolour resist, and drawing paper.

Colour Burst – Holiday Art Workshop

An Acrylic Painting Workshop!

Age Group: 9-15 yrs old

Date: Monday and Tuesday 20 and 21 December —This is a two-morning workshop.

Time: 9.30 am to 12.30 pm

About the Workshop:

This is an acrylic painting workshop.
We will be using acrylics to explore the broken colour method of applying paint and exploring ways of mixing colour.

On Day 1, you are encouraged to explore ways to mix colours to extend the colour range of a few basic colours and to apply these colours . We’ll look at both natural and man-made radiation of colour.
You’ll also be preparing your canvas for the painting you will start on Day 2 when we will focus on painting colour to look like it’s bursting from the center outwards.

Brisbane-based artist, Jennifer Andrews, will be conducting the workshop.

Venue:   The Kenmore Uniting Church Hall, 982 Moggill Road, Kenmore, 4069. There is onsite parking and a bus stop nearby. We are in the “Yellow Room”studio underneath the hall.

What you need to bring: A pencil case with a pencil,  eraser, and sharpener. Morning tea snack, water bottle, and wear covered shoes. NB even when wearing art aprons paint will inevitably get onto clothing – so wear appropriate clothing.

The following materials are provided: drawing paper, painting surfaces, a canvas for Day 2, acrylic paints, brushes, palettes, aprons.
